Features

Peflon FEP Shrink Tubing Features

FEP (CAS RN 25067-11-2) is a melt-processable fluoropolymer whose base resin is produced by fluoropolymer leaders such as Daikin; its chemical identity is catalogued by CAS Common Chemistry. These four properties make Peflon FEP shrink tubing dependable across demanding environments.

High Temperature Resistance

FEP materials have excellent high-temperature resistance and can typically withstand temperatures in the range of -200°C to 260°C without deformation, making them well-suited for high-temperature environments.

Chemical Resistance

FEP is highly resistant to most acids, bases, solvents and other chemicals.

Electrical Insulation

FEP materials have excellent electrical insulation properties, making them ideal for preventing leakage or short circuits in wires and cables.

Transparency

FEP shrink tubing is usually transparent, making it easy to see the condition of the cable or wire inside.

Shrink Ratio

FEP Shrink Tubing Types by Shrinkage Ratio

Degree of shrinkage of tubing after heating of Peflon FEP shrink tubing. Choose the shrink ratio that matches the diameter reduction your part requires.

Shrinkage RatioApplication
2:1 Suitable for general cable protection and protection of smaller electrical components; shrinkage reduces the diameter by half.
3:1 Suitable for medium-sized cables or objects.
4:1 Suitable for larger sizes or irregularly shaped parts; can be shrunk to one-quarter of the original diameter.

Wall Construction

FEP Shrink Tubing by Wall Type

There are two main types of Peflon FEP shrink tubing: single-wall and dual-wall. The main differences between them are in construction, application and performance.

Silicone Rubber Tape

Single Wall FEP Shrink Tubing

Suitable for general electrical insulation, protection and sealing applications.

PTFE Additive for Plastics & Composites

FEP Dual Wall Shrink Tubing

Our FEP dual wall shrink tubing is suited to high-temperature work such as mechanical protection and corrosion resistance in the realm of high temperatures.

Colors

FEP Shrink Tubing Colors

Peflon FEP shrink tubing is available in a wide variety of colors.

Standard Grade PTFE Anti-dripping Agent

Transparent

A common type that allows observation of the internal cable or equipment status.

Teflon paper

Colorful

Used to identify different types of wires, connectors or equipment for easy differentiation or added aesthetics. Common colors include red, blue, yellow and black.

Applications

FEP Shrink Tubing Applications

Peflon FEP shrink tubing can be categorized into different types to meet the requirements of specific environments, depending on the needs of the particular application.

SAN-Coated Type PTFE Anti-dripping Agent

Electronic Industry

Wire and cable protection and electronic connector protection.

Peflon Thread Compound

Chemical Industry

For the protection of chemical transportation pipelines and mechanical parts.

Thin-Walled ePTFE Tubing

Medical Industry

For the protection of catheters, cables and other medical equipment.

High-Solid Dispersion PTFE Anti-dripping Agent

Food Industry

FEP spiral heat shrink is widely used to protect food processing equipment because FEP material meets hygiene requirements, and perfluorocarbon resins such as FEP are covered for food contact under 21 CFR 177.1550.

“We use this heat shrink tubing on our wires and connectors to ensure their safety and reliability in harsh environments. Even in extreme temperatures and chemically corrosive environments, FEP heat shrink tubing holds up well. Highly recommended!”

FAQ

FEP Shrink Tubing FAQ

What is FEP heat shrink tubing?

FEP heat shrink tubing is a tube made from Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) that shrinks tightly around a wire, cable or component when heated. It provides electrical insulation, chemical resistance and mechanical protection while withstanding continuous service temperatures from about -200°C to 260°C.

Which shrink ratio should I choose — 2:1, 3:1 or 4:1?

The shrink ratio is how much the tube reduces in diameter when heated. A 2:1 ratio suits general cable protection and smaller components, 3:1 suits medium-sized cables or objects, and 4:1 suits larger or irregularly shaped parts, shrinking to one-quarter of the original diameter. Send us your recovered and supplied diameters and we will match the ratio.

What is the difference between single-wall and dual-wall FEP shrink tubing?

Single-wall FEP shrink tubing is used for general electrical insulation, protection and sealing. Dual-wall tubing adds an inner layer for high-temperature work, mechanical protection and corrosion resistance, giving a tighter, more robust seal in demanding environments.

Can Peflon supply custom colors, sizes and lengths?

Yes. We manufacture FEP heat shrink tubing in customized color, size, shrinkage ratio and length. Transparent tubing lets you inspect the cable inside, while colored tubing (red, blue, yellow, black and more) helps identify different wires and connectors.

Is FEP shrink tubing suitable for medical and food applications?

Yes. FEP is chemically inert and hygienic, so it is used to protect catheters, cables and other medical equipment as well as food processing equipment. Perfluorocarbon resins such as FEP are addressed for food-contact use under 21 CFR 177.1550.
