Introduction

What Is PFA?

PFA (perfluoroalkoxy alkane, CAS 26655-00-5) is a thermoplastic fluoropolymer — a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether — that resists extreme temperatures and aggressive chemicals. Unlike PTFE, PFA is melt-processable — it can be injection moulded into complex shapes or extruded into tube, film and wire insulation, while keeping essentially the same chemical inertness and a continuous service temperature up to 260 °C. PFA vs PTFE — which should I choose?Choose PFA for processability and flexibility; choose PTFE for extreme durability or coatings. PFA is melt-processable, so complex shapes can be injection moulded, while PTFE must be sintered and machined.
FEP vs PFA — what is the difference?FEP is a cost-effective, flexible option for moderate temperatures, while PFA offers better heat resistance, clarity and mechanical strength for demanding applications. Both have excellent chemical resistance, but PFA holds a continuous service temperature of 260 °C against roughly 200 °C for FEP.
How do I select the right PFA grade?Match the grade to your processing method and end use using the MFR column above. Low MFR (0.8–6) suits thick-wall mouldings, linings and pipe; medium MFR (6–16) suits tubing, profiles and general extrusion; high MFR (16–30) suits thin-wall wire coating and fast extrusion.
How is PFA packaged?PFA resin is packaged in 25 kg multilayer bags with an integral polyethylene liner. Dispersion is supplied in sealed drums and must be protected from freezing.
