Performance

Key Features of Expanded PTFE Sheet

Highly Flexible

Softer and more flexible than traditional PTFE sheets — conforms to imperfect flange faces.

Excellent Sealing

Microporous structure provides reliable seals in high-pressure, high-temperature environments.

Chemical Resistance

Resists nearly all chemicals — including acids, alkalis and aggressive solvents.

Low Friction

Reduces equipment wear and extends service life on sliding seal interfaces.

High-Temperature Resistance

Performs reliably across extreme temperature ranges, from cryogenic to +260 °C.

Compression Resistance

Ideal for high-pressure sealing applications — maintains seal integrity under load.

Non-toxic: Expanded PTFE is non-toxic and can be used in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Manufacturing

How We Manufacture Expanded PTFE Sheet

The process of making Expanded PTFE Sheet typically involves multiple steps, each of which needs to be tightly controlled to ensure the final product has excellent flexibility, sealing properties, high-temperature resistance and chemical resistance.

  1. Raw Material Preparation

Verified virgin PTFE fine powder as the base resin — traced lot-by-lot.

  2. Sintering & Drying

Controlled sintering to lock the molecular structure before expansion.

  3. Directional Stretching

Bi-axial expansion creates the microporous, conformable sheet structure.

  4. Post-Processing

Calibration, slitting and surface finishing to customer-spec width and thickness.

  5. Quality Testing

Density, tensile, compressibility and chemical resistance — every roll inspected before shipment.

FAQ

FAQ — Expanded PTFE Sheet

What is the difference between expanded PTFE sheet and regular PTFE sheet?

Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) is processed by bi-axial stretching to create a microporous, soft, conformable structure. Regular PTFE sheet is dense and rigid. ePTFE is preferred for gasket and sealing applications because it conforms to imperfect flange faces; rigid PTFE sheet is preferred for machined parts.

Can expanded PTFE sheet be used for food contact?

Yes. Our food and pharma grades are made from non-toxic virgin PTFE and qualify under FDA 21 CFR 177.1550. Documentation is supplied with the lot.

What temperature and pressure range does ePTFE sheet handle?

Continuous service from cryogenic temperatures up to about +260 °C. Pressure rating depends on flange design and gasket factor — our engineering team can recommend the right thickness and density for your bolt load.

What sheet sizes and thicknesses are stocked?

Standard rolls 1500 mm × 1500 mm or 1500 mm continuous, thickness 0.5 mm – 6 mm. Custom dimensions and die-cut gaskets available on request.

Is Peflon ePTFE compatible with Gore GR®, Garlock GYLON® or Flexitallic Sigma®?

Yes — Peflon Expanded PTFE Sheet is widely used as a cost-effective replacement for these major brands. See the cross-reference table above for typical match-ups.
