Bronze Filled PTFE

Peflon bronze-filled Teflon is a composite material made by blending bronze powder into polytetrafluoroethylene — combining PTFE's chemical inertness and low friction with the mechanical strength and thermal conductivity of bronze.

Applications

Applications of Bronze Filled PTFE

High thermal conductivity and strong wear resistance make bronze-filled PTFE a proven solution across industrial engineering — available in four stock product forms.

Rod

Bronze Filled PTFE Rod

Machinable cylindrical stock — bearings, bushings and slide components.

Sheet

Bronze Filled PTFE Sheet

Flat stock for gaskets, liners and sliding pads under high load.

Seals

Bronze Filled PTFE Seals

Valve seats, piston rings and dynamic seal elements for high-friction service.

Assembly

Bronze Filled PTFE Assemblies

Machined components and subassemblies built to your drawing or sample.

Key Features

Why Bronze Filler Matters

Bronze powder raises the mechanical and thermal performance of PTFE without sacrificing its signature chemical resistance and low-friction surface — delivering a composite uniquely suited for high-load, high-temperature mechanical service.

  • Enhanced Mechanical Strength — Higher rigidity, better abrasion resistance and longer service life.
  • Improved Thermal Conductivity — Efficient heat transfer for components that run hot.
  • Low Coefficient of Friction — PTFE's natural low friction is preserved in the composite.
  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance — Maintains PTFE chemical resistance, suitable for harsh media.
  • Self-Lubricating — Creates lubrication on friction surfaces, reducing wear and energy loss.

Grades

Bronze Loading and Grade Selection

Bronze-filled PTFE blends 40–60% bronze powder into virgin PTFE (CAS 9002-84-0) base resin — the same fluoropolymer chemistry catalogued on PubChem. Raising the bronze loading trades a little machinability for greater load capacity, wear life and thermal conductivity.

GradeBronze ContentKey AdvantageTypical Applications
Bronze 40 40% Balanced load capacity with good machinability General bearings, bushings, slide bearings
Bronze 55 55% Higher thermal conductivity and wear resistance Piston rings, guide rings, dynamic seals
Bronze 60 60% Maximum load capacity and heat dissipation Heavy-duty bearings, hydraulic components
FAQ

Bronze Filled PTFE FAQ

What is bronze-filled PTFE used for?

Bronze-filled PTFE is specified for heavy-duty mechanical parts such as bearings, bushings, piston rings, valve seats and guide rings — applications that need high load capacity, wear resistance and heat dissipation while keeping PTFE's low friction and chemical resistance.

How much bronze is added to the PTFE compound?

Standard grades contain 40–60% bronze powder by weight. A higher bronze fraction increases load capacity, wear resistance and thermal conductivity; a lower fraction improves machinability and surface finish.

Why choose bronze filler over glass or carbon filler?

Bronze gives the highest load capacity and thermal conductivity of the common fillers, making it the preferred choice for high-load, high-temperature bearings and seals. Glass improves creep and wear at lower cost, while carbon and graphite favour dry-running and chemical service. Selection depends on load, temperature and the mating surface.

Is bronze-filled PTFE suitable for dynamic seals and bearings?

Yes. Its self-lubricating, low-friction surface combined with high compressive strength and good heat transfer makes it well suited to dynamic seals, wear rings and unlubricated or marginally lubricated bearings.

What product forms and sizes are available?

Peflon supplies bronze-filled PTFE as rod, sheet, moulded seals and finished machined assemblies. Custom dimensions, bronze loadings and drawing- or sample-based parts are available on request — send your specification for a quote.
