Overview

What is PTFE Gland Packing

Peflon PTFE gland packing is a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) material used for sealing and insulation. Also known as Teflon packing rope. It provides mechanical compression for complex applications in a wide range of industries. As an inert fluoropolymer, PTFE resists virtually all chemicals, making the packing suitable for aggressive media that would attack conventional fibre packings.

Types

Types of PTFE Gland Packing

PTFE Gland Packing

Made of 100% polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion with excellent chemical inertness and temperature resistance.

By Filler

PTFE Filled Packing

Fillers are blended into the PTFE to tune strength, thermal conductivity and wear. Peflon also braids oiled and oil-free PTFE packing to match your lubrication and purity requirements.

General Industrial Liners

Glass Filled PTFE

Glass fibre-filled PTFE packing for improved mechanical strength and wear resistance.

PTFE silver plated copper wire

Graphite-Filled PTFE

Graphite-filled PTFE packing for improved thermal conductivity and wear resistance.

Carbon teflon

Carbon fibre-filled PTFE packing that increases strength and hardness while keeping a low coefficient of friction.

bronze-filled-PTFE

Bronze-filled PTFE packing for enhanced wear resistance and thermal conductivity.

Applications

Applications of PTFE Packing

Peflon PTFE packings are extensively utilized across various industrial applications due to their outstanding chemical inertness, high-temperature resistance, low friction coefficient, and superior sealing properties.

Pumps PTFE Packing

Employed for sealing pump shafts to prevent the leakage of liquids or gases.

Pipes and Flanges PTFE Packing

Applied in flange seals at pipeline connections to maintain the integrity of piping systems and prevent leakage.

Valves PTFE Packing

Used for valve stem sealing, ensuring effective sealing of media in high-pressure and high-temperature environments.

Storage Tanks PTFE Packing

Utilized in the chemical industry for sealing storage tanks, preventing the leakage of corrosive or hazardous substances.

Compressors PTFE Packing

Used to seal piston rods and shafts in compressors, reducing friction and energy consumption.

Mixers and Blenders PTFE Packing

Serves as shaft seals in mixing equipment within the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries, ensuring product purity and safety.

Production

Production Process of PTFE Packing

Braided PTFE Packing

Made from braided PTFE fibers, usually supplied in coils or disks, which can be cut to the size and shape required to meet specific equipment requirements. Commonly used in dynamic sealing applications for pumps and valves.

Expanded PTFE Packing

Expanded for greater flexibility and sealing performance, it is usually supplied in tape, sheet, or coil form and is widely used for sealing pipes and equipment flanges.

Manufacturing

How to Make PTFE Packing

  1. Material Preparation: Pure PTFE fibers are used or blended with graphite, aramid fibers, etc. to enhance properties.
  2. Braiding: The fibers are braided into a rope or strip structure, either square or round.
  3. Impregnation or Coating: The braided packing is impregnated or coated with graphite or lubricants to enhance properties.
  4. Forming and Cutting: The packing is formed to the required size and shape and cut to length.
FAQ

PTFE Packing FAQ

What is PTFE gland packing used for?

PTFE gland packing (braided Teflon packing rope) seals rotating and reciprocating shafts and stems — pumps, valves, compressors, mixers and storage-tank agitators. Its inert PTFE structure handles aggressive chemicals, solvents, acids and bases that attack conventional fibre packings.

Pure PTFE or filled PTFE packing — which should I choose?

Choose pure (100%) PTFE packing for maximum chemical purity and food or pharmaceutical service. Choose a filled grade — glass, graphite, carbon or bronze — when you need higher mechanical strength, better thermal conductivity or improved wear resistance under load and speed.

What sizes and lead time can Peflon offer?

We braid custom cross-sections from 5 to 20 mm in square or round profile, cut to coil, ring or length. Standard delivery is approximately ten working days depending on quantity and filler type.

Is PTFE packing chemically safe and inert?

Yes. PTFE (CAS 9002-84-0) is chemically inert and non-toxic, so the packing does not contaminate the sealed media and resists virtually the full pH range — ideal for chemical, food and pharmaceutical sealing.

Do you support samples, custom fillers and OEM supply?

Yes. We produce custom sizes, filler blends and profiles, provide samples for qualification, and support OEM / private-label supply. Send us your shaft or stem dimensions and working conditions and we will recommend the right grade.
