What Is Filled PTFE
Filled PTFE — also called PTFE compounds — is virgin polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, CAS 9002-84-0) blended with inorganic or metallic fillers such as glass fiber, carbon, graphite, bronze or molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂). Fillers keep PTFE’s chemical resistance and low friction while sharply improving wear resistance, compressive strength and dimensional stability.
The main weakness of virgin PTFE is creep (cold flow) and soft wear behaviour under load. Fillers address exactly this — see general PTFE property data — so filled PTFE is the standard choice for seals, bearings, piston rings and valve seats.

Why use filled PTFE instead of virgin PTFE?
Virgin PTFE has excellent chemical resistance and low friction but creeps (cold-flows) and wears quickly under load. Fillers such as glass, carbon, graphite and bronze cut creep, raise wear resistance and compressive strength, and can add thermal or electrical conductivity — while keeping most of PTFE’s chemical resistance.
Which filler should I choose?
Glass for general wear and creep resistance; carbon for wear plus compressive strength and some conductivity; graphite for the lowest friction and self-lubrication; bronze for maximum wear resistance and load; MoS₂ for low friction with higher hardness. Does filling reduce PTFE’s chemical resistance?
Inert fillers like glass and graphite keep most of PTFE’s chemical resistance; metallic fillers such as bronze are attacked by strong acids and alkalis, so grade selection must consider the service medium.
How is filled PTFE supplied?
As free-flowing compounded powder for compression molding and ram extrusion, or as finished stock shapes — rod, tube, sheet and molded billets — ready to machine into seals, bearings and wear parts.
What filler loadings are typical?
Loadings range from about 5% (MoS₂) to 60% (bronze) by weight depending on the filler and target property. Higher loadings raise wear resistance and stiffness but lower elongation — we tune the ratio to your part.
